Hidden Line Crit Club — Private Criterium Racing on the KZN North Coast.
Hidden Line Crit Club (HLCC) is a private criterium racing series across road and gravel circuits on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, South Africa. Six rotating courses between KwaDukuza, Ballito, Umhlanga and Durban North — industrial estates after the shift ends, shopping lots between close and open, dune-side trails the maps don't know about. Locations released to members forty-eight hours before each drop.
What is a Crit?
A criterium — crit — is short-circuit bike racing. A closed loop, repeated multiple times, with the field racing together as a bunch. Crits reward line selection, cornering, positioning, and nerve over raw distance. Where a traditional road race covers long, varied routes with climbs and breakaways, a crit happens in the corners. You don't win a crit with one big move — you win it by making fewer bad decisions than everyone else, lap after lap, until the field thins.
Hidden Line runs two formats. Road crits on tarmac, with short technical loops in industrial estates and shopping precincts. Gravel crits on mixed surfaces — fire roads, dune-side trails, and unsealed service tracks. Same crit format. Different bike.
The Format
Two disciplines, one ruleset. Road crit: 1.2 to 2.4 km loops, 16 to 30 laps, tarmac. Gravel crit: 3 to 5.6 km loops, 8 to 12 laps, gravel or mixed. Always closed circuits. Always multi-lap. Always intense. A criterium isn't a race — it's the same corner taken thirty times in a row until somebody's nerve goes.
Six Circuits
Six undisclosed courses in rotation across the North Coast catchment. Surface, distance, lap count, and elevation are public; date and location stay redacted until forty-eight hours before each drop. Codenames — LOTHIAN, DUNE 7, MERIDIAN, SALT REEF — let members recognise the field without giving away the venue.
Where We Race
The KwaZulu-Natal North Coast — between KwaDukuza, Salt Rock, Ballito, Umdloti, Umhlanga, and Durban North. Most members ride out of this corridor; a few travel down from the Drakensberg foothills or up from Durban CBD. The catchment is built for crit racing: low-traffic industrial estates, large parking lots between shopping centres, and unsealed dune tracks within twenty minutes of each other.
